Teenager charged over Fife hospital fire

Police say they've charged a teenager in connection with a fire at Victoria hospital in Kirkcaldy

A teenager has been charged in connection with a fire at a hospital in Fife.

Emergency service were called to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy yesterday (Tuesday May 16).

The fire brigade attended a blaze in a ground floor toilet around 8:47pm, with five appliances sent to the scene - nobody was injured.

Now Police Scotland has confirmed that a 15-year-old has been charged in connection with the incident, which they are treating as wilful.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.45pm on Tuesday, 16 May, 2023, officers received a report of a fire at a hospital in Kirkcaldy.

“A 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.47pm on Tuesday, 16 May to reports of a fire within Kirkcaldy's Victoria Hospital.

"Operations Control mobilised five fire appliances to the area, where firefighters extinguished a fire within a ground floor toilet.

"Crews left the scene after working to make the area safe.

"There were no casualties."
