Fife votes not to impose work place parking levy
Councillors in Fife have voted against implementing a work place parking levy, which the Scottish Government wants to see brought in across the country
Fife Council has voted against imposing a work place parking levy.
The policy, drawn up by the Scottish Government, came into effect this month.
But local authorities are in control on weather they impose it or not.
It would see people having to pay a fee annually for the right to use parking spaces provided by their work place.
It's hoped the scheme would help to reduce carbon emissions by encouraging people to walk, cycle, take public transport or car share.
But Councillors in Fife have decided they won't be backing the scheme.
The motion to reject the proposal was put forward by the Conservative group in the council.
Conservative Group Leader, Cllr Dave Dempsey said “Recent media coverage may have given the impression that the Levy was a done deal. It’s not.
"It’s down to each individual council. While the Conservatives would rule this out for the whole of Scotland, we in Fife can make that decision for Fife. And we have.
"No Levy in Fife. Result."
