People living in north Edinburgh have told Forth News motorbike joyriding in the area is as bad as it's ever been.

We can reveal police are looking into a spike in the crime over the last few days with the problem worst around Pennywell Road.

It is an issue Forth News continues to investigate with our Break the Cycle campaign.

The crime seemed to reduce slightly after an alleged hit and run at a pedestrian crossing on Ferry Road left a 10-year-old boy seriously injured.

But Roy Douglas, Chair of Muirhouse and Salvesen Community Council said this now seems to be over.

He said, "I think over the last month or so, where there was the incident on Ferry Road, there was a wee bit of a drop-off.

"Some of the guys who were racing these bikes may have felt enough was enough but it has started up again."

Police have confirmed they are investigating a number of recent incidents.

Chief Inspector Stevie Sutherland, said, "We received a number of calls regarding motorcycle criminality in the Pennywell Road area on the evening of Sunday, September 17.

"Police were called and officers are now conducting significant inquiries into these incidents.

"An update will be issued to the local community in due course.

"The disruption and detection of motorcycle crime and associated disorder is a key priority for Edinburgh Division"
