EXCLUSIVE: The High Rate Of Accidents Involving Cyclists In Edinburgh

Published 17th Mar 2015

Forth News can reveal around a-quarter of all accidents in Scotland between cyclists and motorists happen in Edinburgh. The most recent Government figures show, across the country, there were 852 such collisions in 2013, with 228 of them in the city. The figure is four times higher than in Fife where there were 59 collisions. East Lothian reported 18 accidents, the number for Midlothian was just 7 and West Lothian saw 21. The move has triggered plenty of debate on our <a class="article-body-link" href="https://www.facebook.com/forthone?ref=bookmarks "cyclist debate"">Facebook page. But Nathan Kaczmarski of Cycling Scotland said the figures shouldn't put people off travelling by bike. He said, "The benefits of cycling certainly outweigh any of the risks. "There is a huge amount of things that are positive about cycling, including for your health and the environment".
