Events have been held in Edinburgh to mark the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with atomic and hydrogen bombs.

Ellen Moxley, 80, of Trident Ploughshares has begun a four day fast outside the Scottish Parliament which will finish at 12 noon on 9th August.

She was one of the protestors who dumped ÂŁ80,000 worth of computer equipment, as part of demonstrations against the Trident nuclear weapons system, into Loch Long in 1999.

Her protest is part of an international fast taking place in France, the US and other countries as well as London, Glasgow and elsewhere in the UK.

There was also a paper lantern floating ceremony at noon today (Thurs) on the pond outside the Scottish Parliament.

A vigil was aso due to take place from 6-7 pm on the Mound/Princes Street, organised by Edinburgh CND.

The bomb which was dropped on Hiroshima - which is largely credited with ending the Second World War - killed 140-thousand people.
