Elderly man dies after East Lothian road accident

An elderly man has died after a road accident in East Lothian.

The collision happened on the A1 near to the junction at Torness power station at 1pm on Monday and involved a black Ford Focus and a heavy goods vehicle.

Police and emergency services arrived at the scene to find the 70-year-old driver of the Ford with serious injuries.

The man, who has not yet been named, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment but died a short time later.

The 51-year-old male driver of the HGV was uninjured.

Police Scotland say a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Sergeant Andrew Trotter, of Lothian and Scottish Borders' road policing unit, said: This is a tragic collision and our thoughts are with the gentleman's family at this difficult time.

We are still establishing the full circumstances and are eager to speak to anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the collision.
