Edinburgh Council officials are to review a contract the local authority has with a group of companies responsible for maintaining 17 schools in the city.

Councillors backed a vote of no confidence in the Edinburgh Schools Partnership on Thursday (3 May) following a string of problems at Oxgangs Primary.

Nine tonnes of masonry fell from outside wall at the school in 2016 and more recently a ceiling tile fell on a pupil and the roof was damaged by high winds.

The consortium has said it is fully committed to ensuring the safety of staff and pupils.

As a result of the 'no confidence' vote officials have beebn instructed to 'review the contract and ensure that ESP deliver their obligations in full'

There must be regular independent inspections by an independent surveyor, or when considered necessary by the Council.

The consortium must also carry out any remedial work promptly and this should be checked to the satisfaction of the Council, using independent inspections.
