Strikes by Edinburgh Tram workers have been suspended.

Unite the Union say they are putting the breaks on industrial action which was due to start on Thursday (November 17th) and go on for ten days.

A representative has told Forth News that they'll now put a fresh proposal from the operator to their members.

Talks were held today in a last ditch attempt to avoid walk-outs.

Action would caused disruption for Rugby fans travelling to Scotland's final Autumn Test fixture with Argentina.

Unite claimed earlier this month that an agreement reached in August, which was accepted by members, included a commitment to review sick pay for those with long term or critical illnesses.

But they say the Trams have had reneged on that - despite claims it had never been a sticking point during negotiations.

If the strikes were to go ahead they would involve more than 100 staff, including drivers and ticketing assistants.
