The parents of a runner who tragically died while taking part in the Edinburgh Half Marathon last week have described their daughter as a ‘beautiful and bright spirit.’

Olivia Tuohy, 24, tragically passed away during the capital’s marathon festival on Sunday, May 25th.

The Irish national, from Ennis in County Clare, was a student at the Scottish city’s Queen Margaret University.

Amid a touching tribute, Olivia’s devastated family explained the hole her death has left in their lives.

A death notice published online read: “Olivia, a bright and beautiful spirit, passed away on the 25th May while participating in the Edinburgh Half Marathon.

“Olivia’s bubbly personality and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

“Olivia is survived by her heart broken parents Kieran and Liz and her brother Stephen and his partner Laura, her loving partner Michael and his parents Maria-Elena and Steven, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbours and her friends both in Ireland and Edinburgh.”

Messages of condolences and tributes poured for Olivia, from sporting bodies the active youngster had played with.

Clare Ladies GAA football team wrote: "We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Olivia Tuohy.

"Her kindness, warmth, and vibrant spirit touched so many lives on and off the football field, and her absence will be felt profoundly.

"Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, her partner, and all who loved her during this difficult time. May she rest in peace."

Members of other Gaelic football clubs in Ennis showed their support for Olivia and her family, with players from CLG Éire Óg Inis, a Gaelic Athletic Association football club in the area, holding a moment of silence for the runner at their game on May 29th.
