An Edinburgh schoolboy who tragically died yesterday (March 14) has been named as Andrew MacKinnon.

The 15-year-old was playing football when he collapsed.

Emergency services were called to Broomhouse Road near Forrester High School just after 3pm but despite the best efforts of paramedics, Andrew sadly passed away.

Local St David's Broomhouse Parish Church invited residents in the area to come along last night for "Quiet reflection" and also to light a candle.

A online fundraiser for the family in memory of Andrew has already smashed it's goal, raising more than £14,000 with more than 600 donations.

A post on the GoFundMe reads:

"On Tuesday 14th March they sadly lost their son Andrew. He was doing what he loved, playing football and suddenly passed away ️

"He was a lovely, caring boy and adored his family. A few years ago Andrew went through massive surgery - he’s was the strongest lad and powered through life with the biggest smile on his face..

"On behalf of the family we have set this go fund me up to take as much pressure of the family as we can at this hard time. We pass our love onto you all and Andrew will forever be the brightest star in the sky".
