Edinburgh school urges parents to check kids social media to tackle anti-social behaviour
An Edinburgh school has written a letter to parents urging them to check their kids social media in order to prevent anti-social behaviour.
The headteacher of Craigroyston Community High School says a recent rise in the number of anti-social incidents in the area and involving pupils is the reason for the action.
The letter claims a number of pupils have been dealt with by police in recent weeks.
Local Lib Dem Councillor Louise Young says: "I really applaud the headteacher for trying to look for ways to engage with the parent group and to try and make sure her pupils are safe and parents know where they are. I understand the letter has been well received by parents."
But not everyone agrees.
Local Tory Councillor Graham Hutchison says: "I personally don't like the idea of parents of 13, 14, and 15-year-old's going in to their schools bags, getting their phones out and checking their social media messages is a step too far. It's all about that balance."
