George Taylor has signed his first professional deal after agreeing to join Edinburgh ahead of next season.

The 21-year-old centre had been playing for Melrose, where he lifted the BT Cup and won the BT Premiership title, while seeing out the final year of his education.

Taylor has represented Scotland at under-18 and under-20 level, scoring once in seven appearances for the latter.

It's always been my aspiration to get to the next level in rugby,'' Taylor told Edinburgh's official website.

I'm over the moon about signing my first professional contract and I'm excited to see what the future holds for Edinburgh.''

Head Coach Richard Cockerill added: George is a bright, young player with a great amount of potential. We're eager to see how he develops within a strong centre group.'
