Edinburgh road closures - Tuesday 13th September

The Queen's coffin will move from St Giles' Cathedral to Edinburgh airport this afternoon.

On Tuesday 13th September, the Queen’s coffin will be moved from St Giles’ Cathedral to Edinburgh Airport. As a result, there will be a number of road closures across the city.The Queen's coffin will leave St Giles' Cathedral at 4.30pm and travel to Edinburgh airport along the following route;

The Queen's coffin will leave St Giles' Cathedral at 4.30pm and travel to Edinburgh airport along the following route;

  • Johnston Terrace
  • Castle Terrace
  • Lothian Road
  • Queensferry Street
  • Queensferry Road
  • Maybury Road
  • Turnhouse Road

A full closure of the A90 corridor and all adjoining roads will be phased in from 1pm, starting with the A90 citybound from Barnton junction. The westbound A90 from Dean Bridge to Barnton and all side roads off Queensferry Road will close from 3pm. This is likely to cause significant disruption during rush hour.

Barnton and Maybury junctions and Maybury Road will be fully closed from 5pm and will reopen as soon as the cortege has passed through. Other routes will be reopened as soon as crowds have dispersed and it is deemed safe to do so but are expected to be open by 6.30pm.

Public Transport

Lothian Buses are implementing a number of service restrictions, including some suspensions, from 1pm until 7pm today. Edinburgh Trams services are also expected to be busier than normal.

ScotRail are running additional services, advising passengers to travel to Edinburgh Waverley and make their way to St Giles Cathedral from there, as opposed to other stations such as Haymarket.
