Edinburgh 'play out' to be rolled out after successful trial
The scheme allows communities to close their street to traffic so children can play safely.
A scheme which sees city streets closed for a few hours so kids can play outside without worrying about traffic is set to be rolled out.
'Edinburgh Playing Out' was trialled last year with 54 sessions held across 30 different roads.
Councillors are next week expected to vote in favour of making the idea official policy.
A report to the Transport and Environment Committee concludes that the pilot scheme met its various objectives.
Transport Convener, Cllr Lesley Macinnes said: "Our Edinburgh Playing Out pilot scheme saw hundreds of children, parents and neighbours reclaiming their streets for play, conversation and social interaction.
"Feedback from the public consultation was enormously positive and showed huge support for rolling this out as Council policy.
"By making our streets places to spend quality time with friends and neighbours, we're helping build strong community spirit, fostering connections between different generations and enabling children to flourish through free and active play.
