Edinburgh mum prosecuted after kids missed school
An Edinburgh mum has pleaded guilty to not making sure her teenage girls were going to school.
The prosecution is a rare move for the city council.
The 37-year-old mother's two daughters were repeatedly missing classes at a secondary in the north of the city.
One of the pupils had an attendance rate of just 39%.
Speaking in court, a solicitor for the council said the mum - who can't be named for legal reasons - had failed to engage with welfare staff.
The youngsters are being referred to the Children's Reporter to see if any more action is needed.
It is three years since such action has been taken in Edinburgh.
In 2013, a mother was fined £150 for a similar offence.
