Edinburgh man dies in high speed train accident in Austria

A man from Edinburgh has died after he was hit by a high-speed train in Austria.

Fraser McGill is understood to have stepped backwards off a platform at Grillgasse station in Vienna as an inter-city train passed through.

The 48-year-old, who is originally from Edinburgh but lived in the Austrian capital, is said by police to have moved too close to the platform''.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office said: We are in contact with the local authorities following the death of a British man in Vienna, Austria.

We are ready to provide support to his family at this difficult time.''
