Edinburgh's JK Rowling brings magic moments to Orkney book club
Members of an island book club were stunned when Edinburgh author JK Rowling turned up at their meeting following an offer of tea and cake.
The Orkney group met up on Saturday (5th March) to discuss The Cuckoo's Calling - the first of Rowling's crime novels written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
A tweet about the gathering caught the attention of the Harry Potter writer earlier in the week, who said she might have to apparate'' to the library in Kirkwall as the weather looked a bit rough.
On Saturday morning Orkney Library tweeted a picture of a lemon drizzle cake they had on standby should the world-famous author turn up.
Library worker Stewart Bain said the book group known as the Saturday Slaughters were gobsmacked'' when she stopped by for a visit.
Rowling later tweeted: I had the best time! Thanks for wonderful chat, cake and, of course, letting me touch The Book.''
The author posted a photograph of herself holding a title about organic gardening by Coronation Street actress Thelma Barlow.
Orkney Library was voted Library of the Year in last year's Bookseller Industry Awards.
