The total value of house sales in Edinburgh hit £2.5bn last year with just over 11,000 properties changing hands, according to the latest figures from Registers of Scotland. Glasgow came in second on £1.4bn while sales across the country were worth a total of £15.4bn. The figures also reveal that 93,875 properties changed hands in Scotland during 2014 which is the highest annual figure since 2008 and up by 11.6% on the previous year. Edinburgh recorded an average property price of £226,551, an annual increase of 5.2%. By contrast, Midlothian saw a 2.1% reduction in average price to £173,855. The statistics cover all residential sales between £20,000 and £1 million, including those that did not involve a mortgage.
