Fireworks, a torchlight procession and street party: Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations set to return with a bang
Last updated 25th Oct 2021
Thousands of tickets are set to go on sale tomorrow (Tuesday) for the return of Edinburgh's Hogmanay.
This year's event will be launched with a three-day programme of Scottish music headlined by three time Brit award winner Eddie Reader at Greyfriars Kirk, from Wednesday, December the 29th.
It will be followed by a Torchlight Procession down the Royal Mile on Thursday, December the 30th.
And culminate with Edinburgh's world-famous street-party - dubbed Party at the Bells - on Friday, December the 31st.
This will include a performance from a headline act - yet to be announced - in front of a crowd of 3,500 people at the Ross Bandstand.
This year's celebrations are being scaled back due to Covid and everyone who attends will need to prove their doubled jabbed.
But Ed Bartlam, from organisers Underbelly, says he's looking forward to welcoming everyone back.
He told us: "I'm just excited to be able to welcome a live audience back to an event, and there's no better place to do that than Edinburgh on Hogmanay.
"I think to be there on Princes Street, in the Gardens, on the 31st; listening to some great music and then watching the fireworks over the Castle is going to be a really exciting, probably quite emotional, moment."
Around 30,000 tickets are being released for the Party at the Bells - about half what it normally is. And there will also be around 5000 fewer tickets for the Torchlight procession to help with social-distancing.
Garden Access and Street Access tickets to the party on Princes Stret will be on sale from 10am on Tuesday, October the 26th, with 7,500 tickets available at a discounted price for those with an EH postcode. Street Access tickets are £25.50, with the EH discounted price being £17.50.
Fifty pence from every Party at the Bells ticket sold will be donated to the Brain Tumour Charity,
Underbelly Co-Directors, Charlie Wood and Ed Bartlam, added: “The 2021 Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations have been reimagined to offer a safe and a fantastic experience for Edinburgh and beyond - telling the world that 'We Are Back Together'.
"Through the Torchlight Procession, Party at the Bells and the iconic fireworks, this year's Hogmanay event has been designed to deliver a celebration for the people of Edinburgh and our visitors, and to place Scotland at the forefront of the world’s new year events. We can't wait to help bring everyone back together again."
