Counting is underway at EICC in the City of Edinburgh Council election.

Our Senior Reporter Lewis Michie is there today to keep us updated as the results come in.

Lib Dem gain to start proceedings:

The Liberal Democrats have GAINED a seat in Ward 1 - Almond.

Kevin Lang and Louise Young have kept their seats, whilst fellow Lib Dem Lewis Younie has grabbed a seat.

The SNP's Norrie Work has RETAINED his seat in the ward.

In Ward 3 Drum-Brae-Gyle the Lib Dems have also taken a seat from the Tories. Whilst the SNP again stay on level footing.

The Liberal Democrat Leader Robert Aldridge RETAINED his seat.

The Conservatives LOST another seat in Ward 4 - Forth. With the SNP also losing one of their councillors there.

It's a varied group there now with the SNP, The Greens, Lib Dems and Labour all having a Councillor each.

Labour Leader Cammy Day RETAINING his seat.

The Tories keep losing seats:

In Ward 5 - Inverleith and Ward 2 - Pentland Hills the Conservatives have LOST another seat in each area.

That allows the SNP to make their first GAIN of the day and the Greens adding another seat to their total.

The Greens made another GAIN in Sighthill/Gorgie, taking a seat which the Tories had won in 2017.

But they then LOST a seat to Labour in Fountainbridge/Craiglockhart - where the Tories and SNP both kept their existing seats.

Lord Provost stays in:

Lord Provost Frank Ross has also retained his seat in Corstorphine/Murrayfield, where the Lib Dems again GAINED a seat from the Conservatives.

The SNP have also managed to break in to the fold in Colinton/Fairmilehead, where they didn't take a seat in 2017.

This time they took one of the two Tory seats, with the Conservatives keeping hold of the other, and Labour RETAINING theirs.

Things hold in Morningside and City Centre:

There's no changes to the seat shares in both Morningside and the City Centre ward - both of which were firmly split in 2017.

Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dem and Greens all retain their existing seats in Morningside.

One each for SNP, Labour, Conservatives and Greens in the City Centre.

Council Leader keeps his seat:

The SNP's Adam McVey has been Council Leader for the last five years, he's RETAINED his seat in Leith.

The Ward is another with no changes as far as party make-up goes, the Greens and Labour also keeping hold of their Councillors in the area.

But in the following declaration the SNP would lose a seat to the Lib Dems in Leith Walk.

More success for the Lib Dems would follow, GAINING another seat from the Tories in Southside/ Newington.

Conservative Leader retains seat:

Conservative Group Leader Iain Whyte is remaining in Council.

He was elected in the Craigentinny/ Duddingston ward.

No change in the overall make-up of party share there.

As you were for final two wards:

Both Portobello/Craigmillar and Liberton/Gilmerton stay the same as they were in 2017.

A break-down of one a piece for the Greens, SNP, Labour and Conservative in the former, and two SNP, one Labour and one Tory in the Latter.

Final results:

The SNP have ended with 19 seats in the Council, that's the same as they picked up in 2017.

The Conservatives are the only group to lose any seats, they've dropped 9 Councillors - halving their footprint in the Council.

The majority of those seats were picked up by The Lib Dems, they added six to their 2017 tally, finishing up with 12.

The Greens added 2 Councillors to reach double figures with 10.

Labour end up the second largest group, they added a seat to take home 13.
