A committee of Edinburgh councilors have recommended the approval of extending the city's tram service to Newhaven.

The local authority's transport and environment committee today backed the project, which would cost £207m.

The final decision on the project will be made by full council on March 14.

If the extension is approved by councillors, the works should be completed by 2022 and operational in the first quarter of 2023.

Concerns have been raised about the cost and disruption the development will cause to areas such as Leith Walk.
