Council tax could be set to rise by 3% in Edinburgh.

It's part of the proposals made by the administration as the local authority votes on its' budget today (Thursday February 24th).

In a bid to tackle the rising cost of living they are also pledging to freeze rent on council owner properties.

They want to provide a direct payment package for "low income households" where they would receive £150.

For each child who receives free schools meals in a household there will also be an additional £100 per child.

This is then topped off with the £150 council tax credit that will be provided for those in bands A-D.

Cleaning and maintenance is a big part of the promises in the administrations submission.

They are pledging £1 Million for a deep clean of the city. 20% of that will be spent in the city centre and the 80% of that sum will be spread between other wards.

An additional million will go towards roads, pavements and road safety improvements.

There is also a number of eco-focused cash injections being proposed.

The full council meeting gets underway at 10am this morning, with opposition councillors to debate the administrations proposal and the vote to follow.
