The Leader of Edinburgh Council has been forced to apologise after he admitted work on a new action plan to tackle motorbike crime is yet to begin.

Following our #BreakTheCycle campaign, a motion was submitted to Edinburgh Council by councillor Kevin Lang calling for action.

At the time it gained unanimous support and was agreed upon, with a report due back in a matter of month.

However, this week Council Leader Adam McVey confessed that it had been forgotten at a full council meeting. He said: "I'm more than happy to apologise, this was simply missed as an action point."

Now Councillor Kevin Lang said: "I just find it incredible and astounding that on something as important as this, which has been well covered particularly by Forth, that it would be simply forgotten about. It is an utter shambles.

"We wanted to try and agree and consult with the community on new initiatives to plan ahead of the school summer holidays, when motorbike crime becomes most prevalent.

Robert Pearson, Chair of resident group 'TRIM and Friends of West Pilton', said: "We were delighted when the elected councillors agreed on a cross-party motion. It is disgusting and appalling to the people of north Edinburgh that our council simply forgot.

"We along with Forth News did a massive campaign, which was very successful, and it has been in the forefront of everyone's minds for months. How can our council simply forget a motion which was covered in the media across Edinburgh and the Lothians? It is disgusting."

A report is now due back in April or May.
