Edinburgh confirms bid to host Eurovision
The City council told Forth News the city has submitted an application to host the song contest next year.
Edinburgh City council has revealed the city has officially put in a bid to host next year's Eurovision Song Contest, just one day before the shortlist is announced.
The city council has confirmed a bid to host the annual singing contest was submitted on Tuesday of this week.
A two-stage process is under way to select the host city in the UK, Eurovision runners up, after it was decided the event cannot be held in war-torn Ukraine following the Russian invasion.
The BBC - who broadcast the contest in the UK and will make the selection alongside the event organisers the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) - has specified that the host city will be chosen using a two-stage selection process.
Once all the applications have been received, a process will take place whereby cities will be shortlisted "based on their ability to meet the requirements and their responses around capability and experience".
Other Scottish cities in the running
Edinburgh will be competing to host the song contest alongside Aberdeen and Glasgow
A shortlist of possible host cities are set to be announced on Friday, with Newcastle, Manchester and Sheffield having also entered bids to host the annual competition.
