Edinburgh coach Cockerill wants Warriors to dent Benetton's play-off plans

Edinburgh claimed the bragging rights over Glasgow on Saturday night but Richard Cockerill says he will be cheering on Warriors next week.

The Murrayfield coach saw his team level up the 1872 Cup series at one win apiece thanks to their 29-19 victory.

The inter-city battles also double as Guinness PRO14 fixtures and Edinburgh's bonus-point win keeps them second in Conference B, a point behind leaders Munster.

Glasgow take on sixth-place Benetton next Saturday but the Italians are only six points back on Edinburgh and Cockerill wants Warriors to put a dent in their play-off plans.

He said: ''Hopefully they go to Benetton and win next week to do us a favour. We need to make sure we turn around, have a good training week, pick the right team and make sure we play with the same intensity and skill against Southern Kings next week.''

The only negative for Edinburgh was the sight of Scotland skipper Stuart McInally trudging off injured, but Cockerill is hopeful the hooker will be back in action soon.

He said: ''Stuart's got sore ribs but he'll be OK. It's just bruising, it will be probably a couple of weeks.''

There was also an injury scare for the visitors as Adam Hastings had to be replaced late on and Dave Rennie admits the stand-off will require further assessment.

He said: ''Adam took a knock to the head so that was immediate. Clearly he wasn't well enough to continue.

The defeat is disappointing. It's hard to win big games with the amount of errors we made.''
