Jim Jefferies is back in football after joining Edinburgh City as sporting director.

The 66-year-old retired as a manager after leaving Dunfermline in December 2014 but recently expressed he was open to working in a mentoring capacity.

The Scottish Professional Football League newcomers have now moved to take advantage of his wealth of experience and the former Falkirk, Hearts, Bradford and Kilmarnock manager will join the board of the Ladbrokes League Two club.

A club statement read: In addition to building on his extensive network of contacts north and south of the border, Jim will play a key role in working with (manager) Gary Jardine in all aspects of player recruitment as well as acting as a sounding board for the management team.''

Jefferies said: During my chats recently with the club I've been impressed with their ambition and plans going forward and I look forward to helping them in areas which they feel they need support. I hope my years of experience can help them and I look forward to the challenge.''

Jardine added: It's another fantastic step in the right direction for the club.

If we have lacked anything as a club since making the step up it would be experience.

Jim coming in gives us that in abundance having been involved at every level of the game in Scotland and that can only improve Edinburgh City and on a personal level myself and the coaching staff.''
