Edinburgh Airport hail record October for passenger numbers
1,129,720 passengers made their way through the hub last month.
Edinburgh Airport bosses have reported a record number of passengers for October in their latest figures.
A total of 1,129,720 passengers travelled through the Edinburgh hub last month, making it the busiest October at a Scottish airport.
It was the seventh month where the number of passengers exceeded one million.
The numbers were a 12.5% increase on October last year, officials said.
The largest growth area was international flights, which recorded a 23.6% rise during the same period.
Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: These latest passenger figures are a direct result of the growth in passenger services offering choice of routes to and from Edinburgh.
This growth benefits the economy of Edinburgh, the Lothians and all of Scotland.
Unlike the majority of UK airports we have a strong balance of inbound and outbound passengers, this gives us greater confidence as we look at the opportunities and challenges ahead.''
Mr Dewar called for a 50% cut in air passenger duty (APD) to attract international airlines to bring global routes to Scotland which he said would stimulate the economy.
He added: There is, however, absolutely no room for complacency and we continue to urge the Scottish Government to deliver detail on their proposed cut to air passenger duty.''
