Eating disorders on the rise - but charity says help is out there

Addictive Eaters Anonymous say their 12-step programme can help

There's been a 66% rise from 2006 and 2016 in the number of people in Scotland being treated for eating disorders.

Cases of bulimia, anorexia, binge eating and extreme dieting are on the rise - and that's only the cases we know about.

In the NHS Grampian area 49 people sought help for their problems in 2006 - it jumped to 70 by 2016.

Eating disorder figures

Our reporter Vicky Murray has been speaking to a 54 year old woman from Glasgow who says she's been addicted to eating since she was 7.

She has been helped by Additive Eaters Anonymous - and is now looking to help others who have the illness.

There is a Freedom from Food workshop on Saturday 12th May at Hillhead Library in Byres Road in Glasgow at 10:30am.
