Drug Trafficker Dumped Heroin On Fife Street In Bid To Flee Police
A drug trafficker who dumped heroin worth more than £46,000 on the streets as he tried to flee police was jailed for four years today (Tue Nov 3rd).
Craig Morgan drove off in a van after officers moved in to detain him, but was intercepted.
Witnesses saw Morgan throw a plastic bag from the driver's window and almost half a kilo of the Class A drug was recovered from a grass verge.
A judge told him: "Given the nature, gravity and value of the Class A drugs involved and your direct involvement in a commercial supply operation, it is clear only a substantial period of imprisonment would be appropriate."
Lord Malcolm said at the High Court in Edinburgh that he would have jailed him for six years, but for his early plea in the case.
Morgan (43) a joiner, of Keltyhill Avenue, Kelty, in Fife, had earlier admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin on January 21 this year.
The court heard that plainclothes officers saw a black Ford Transit van parked outside an address in Morgan's home street.
Morgan got in the driver's side and started the vehicle and officers moved in and opened the doors, identified themselves as police and tried to take hold of him.
But he broke free and drove off at speed towards Main Street, in Kelty, before being caught. He was interviewed and arrested but made no comment.
A search of a house in his home street found scales, re-sealable bags, a notebook with names and amounts of money listed and £430 in cash.
Morgan's fingerprints were found on bags after the heroin was thrown from the van. The court heard that the heroin recovered had the potential to be broken down into more than ten £4500 deals.
