Driver runs off after Livingston crash seriously injures passenger

Police in Livingston are searching for a driver who ran from a crash which left his passenger seriously injured.

The accident happened on Thymebank, close to Ladywell East Road at around 1:40pm on Sunday May 12.

A black Porsche Cayenne was travelling westbound along Ladywell East Road when it left the carriageway and came to rest on a footpath near a convenience store on Thymebank.

Emergency services were called to the scene and found a 37-year-old front-seat passenger with serious injuries. He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

The driver of the car had left the scene before police arrived. Officers are now following a positive line of inquiry in their efforts to find him.

The road was closed for approximately five hours for collision investigations to be conducted at the scene and officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward to assist with their inquiries.

Inspector Richard Latto from the Road Policing Unit said: “This has been a serious collision and our inquiries are ongoing to trace the driver of the vehicle.

“The passenger sustained serious, but thankfully not life threatening injuries, and we are eager to ascertain the circumstances leading up to the vehicle leaving the carriageway.

“We’d appeal to anyone who saw the vehicle travelling on Ladywell East Road immediately prior to the collision, or who witnessed what happened, to contact officers as soon as possible. Similarly anyone who may have captured the incident on private CCTV or dash-cam should come forward and provide this as soon as possible.”
