Driver May Not Have Known He Struck Pedestrian
The driver of a car which struck a man who later died may not have been aware they had hit a person, police have said.
The 57-year-old was struck by a car in a hit and run on Comiston Road at Buckstone Terrace in Edinburgh at around 8pm on Thursday.
The man fell into the road and was hit by a small, dark vehicle which failed to stop, police said.
Emergency services were contacted after the man was found by a member of the public.
He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment but died a short time later.
Police are appealing for the driver or other occupants of the small dark-coloured vehicle to contact them.
Chief Inspector James Jones said: Our investigations have shown that it is possible that the driver of the vehicle may not have been immediately aware they had struck a person.
We would ask that anyone driving in the area of Comiston Road (Buckstone Terrace) around 8pm on Thursday get in touch with us.''
