Driver critical after M80 crash on Saturday

The 52-year was driving a pick up which crashed near Haggs

A driver is in a critical condition in hospital in Glasgow after his pick up crashed on the M80 closing the motorway for several hours on Saturday.

The 52-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the white Mitsubishi L200 was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital along with a female passenger who is 47.

She is not believed to be seriously injured.

The crash happened at around 13.30 at Haggs and the motorway was shut northbound from junctions 5, Cumbernauld, until after junction 7 while officers investigated the incident in which no other vehicles were involved.

Dashcam appeal

Police Scotland are investigating and appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to get in touch.

Sergeant Scott Kirkpatrick of the force's road policing unit at Stirling, said: "We would like to hear from any motorists who witnessed the crash or anyone who can assist with our investigation.

"If you have any information, in particular dash-cam footage, then please contact police."
