Dopey Drugs Courier Leaves Bag Full Of Heroin In Leith Pub

It's emerged a drugs courier was caught by police after accidentally leaving a bag containing more than £16,000 worth of heroin at a Leith pub.

Graham Jones, 45, left the drugs at Sofi's bar in March of this year.

It was spotted by a barmaid who looked inside and found the brown powder before contacting police.

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Jones pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of diamorphine.

His defence solicitor Paul Dunne said Jones and another person had returned to the bar on several occasions asking about the lost bag.

"He was acting as a courier and not a distributor" said the lawyer.

His client, he added, had a "significant drug-using history and was placed in the position by the supplier that if he delivered drugs he would be given a small amount of heroin".

Sheriff Nigel Morrison QC deferred sentence until next month for a background report.
