An investigation is underway after a dead golden eagle was found wrapped in a plastic bag, and body parts had been removed.

The eagle was discovered around 11am on Tuesday, 30th July, 2024, on a forestry track off A81 near Loch Rusky, north east of Port of Monteith.

Enquiries have been ongoing and now officers are appealing for help to find out how it came to be there.

Golden eagles are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the most recent national golden eagle survey in 2015 put the UK population at 508 pairs – all in Scotland.
