Details of tram extension to Newhaven revealed

Published 29th Aug 2017

Plans to extend Edinburgh's trams to Newhaven have been revealed today.

The three-mile extension of the line would take trams down Leith Walk, around Ocean Terminal and end at Newhaven.

The construction of the extension would see work take place on Leith Walk for 18 months, reducing the road to one lane.

The extension would also mean the current York Place stop would move closer to the Omni Centre, after it is remodelled as part of the new St James Centre redevelopment.

If the plans are approved, construction would be expected to start in spring 2019.

The plans will now go to the council's transport committee next week.
