Edinburgh Council has confirmed plans to make the city's tram tracks safer for cyclists.

Forth News previously revealed red road markings will be painted at a number of junctions to try to stop the wheels of bikes getting stuck.

The lanes will display the correct angle to cross the tracks and there will be signs detailing safety measures for all road users.

The work is set to start next week.

We now know all the locations were these will be put in place:

• York Place into Elder Street

• Shandwick Place into Queensferry Street

• Princes Street on to Waverley Bridge

• Princes Street into South St David Street

• Princes Street into Frederick Street

A report going before the Council's Transport and Environment Committee on 5 October details the changes, which will be rolled out along with warning signs and a publicity and awareness campaign.

The campaign will urge all road users to "look out for each other", stressing the need for drivers to give cyclists ample space when they're maneuvering into the safest position for crossing tram tracks.

This all comes after the tragic death of medical student Zhi Min Soh back in May.

The wheels of her bike got caught in tram tracks at the west end of Princes Street, causing her to fall off her bike and into the path of traffic.

The new measures have been created with the help of cycling campaign groups.
