Designs released for Edinburgh school extensions
Edinburgh Council plans extra dining space to deal with the Government's pledge to give all P1 to P3s free school meals.
Edinburgh Council's released the designs for new buildings and extensions at four Edinburgh primary schools.
The extra space is needed to cope with the Scottish Government's pledge to provide free school meals for all P1 to P3s.
Planning applications have now been submitted for the accommodation at four schools across the capital – Cramond, East Craigs, Towerbank and Sciennes.
New gym halls are being built at Cramond and East Craigs, which currently only have one very small combined hall for both gym lessons and dining.
Towerbank and Sciennes are having extensions built to their current dining halls.
The Scottish Government provided £4.5m capital funding to build the new dining accommodation and upgrade other school catering facilities across the city.
Figures for the first three months of the year showed that the average free school meal take up for all P1 to P3s during that period was 70.3%.
