A 37-year-old cyclist has died in a crash with a car in West Lothian.

The man was travelling on the A89 near Dehmont and the Bangour Hospital when he was involved in a collision with a car at around 5:20pm yesterday (February 27).

The cyclist sustained serious injuries. Emergency services attended but he was pronounced dead on the way to hospital a short time later.

The road was closed for approximately seven hours for collision investigations at the scene and local road closures were in place.

Sergeant Brian Smith from Livingston’s Road Policing Unit said: “Sadly as a result of the collision the cyclist lost his life and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“A number of people who were driving on the road at the time stopped to assist and we are thankful to them for their assistance.

“I’d ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and has not yet spoken to officers, to come forward to assist with our inquiries. Any driver who may have dash-cam footage is also asked to get in touch and provide this at their earliest opportunity.”
