Customers To Drink To Good Causes At New Edinburgh Pub

A new pub which will allow customers to enjoy a drink while helping good causes is to open in Edinburgh.

The Southside Social, the first social enterprise pub in Scotland, is getting ready to open its doors next week.

All its profits will be donated to good causes, while its young staff will be trained for a career in the hospitality industry.

Chris Thewlis, one of the operators of the Southside Social, described the venture as a fresh new concept'' and aground-breaking new social venue for the people of Edinburgh to enjoy - something that I think will be welcomed in the city''.

He said: By visiting the pub, customers will be able to support good causes while being served by some of the best-trained staff in the city. What's not to like?

Our aim is to help young people gain the skills, knowledge and experience required to make a career in the hospitality industry.

We also hope that industry recruiters will treat the pub like a shop window by dropping in and being served by prospective employees, who will be honing and showcasing their new skills on every shift they work.''

The Southside Social is being opened in the former premises of the Meadow Bar on Buccleuch Street on Monday August 3.
