Cummings looks to follow Hibs team-mate McGInn into Scotland senior set-up
He's looking to earn his first cap
Jason Cummings felt like a proud uncle'' when Hibernian team-mate John McGinn received his first cap, but now wants the pair to become brothers-in-arms for Scotland.
The Easter Road pair have both been nominated for PFA Scotland's Championship player of the year alongside Rangers duo Martyn Waghorn and Lee Wallace.
But it was midfielder McGinn who was first to make the step up to the full international scene when boss Gordon Strachan handed him his chance for last month's Hampden friendly with Denmark.
McGinn, 21, was named man of the match after a mature display against the likes of Tottenham's Christian Eriksen, leaving club colleague Cummings full of admiration.
But now the 20-year-old Leith forward wants to tick off his own ambition of pulling on a Dark Blue jersey at senior level.
The Scotland Under-21 cap said: I was delighted when John got his call-up. I was like a proud uncle, so I was watching him run out there.
It's one of my targets to get a full call-up. It's on my bucket list. Hopefully one day.
I just want to see how far I can get in my career and try to test myself. If I concentrate on my football and enjoy it, everything else will take care of itself.''
Cummings hit his 24th goal of the season in Wednesday night's 3-2 win over Gers as he injected some fresh momentum back into Hibs' play-off bid.
He could also end the season with a Scottish Cup winners' medal if they can repeat the trick by beating Mark Warburton's team in next month's final.
And he admitted the pep talks he receives from boss Alan Stubbs have helped him register the best figures of his young career.
The manager has been different class,'' said Cummings.
He takes me aside every day and we work on shooting and other stuff.
As a guy, he's good to talk to and I can speak to him about anything. We've got a good relationship.
That mentioning role does help. He's been there and has experienced a lot with his own career. There's not much he hasn't seen so anything you need to speak about or bounce off him, he'll be there with advice. He has helped me a lot.''
Cummings and the other nominees will discover if they have been chosen by their peers for the second tier's top individual prize on May 1.
He said: I'm delighted to be nominated. There is a lot of good players in the Championship so I'm buzzing. All my hard work this season has paid off.
I'm obviously in good company with my good mate John McGinn, so I'm delighted for him.
But it could have been anybody at Hibs and there are a few players who are unlucky not to be picked but I'm delighted.''
