Reward offered in hunt for man behind two Edinburgh sex attacks
Two women were attacked in 2015
A £5,000 reward is being offered to help track down a man who carried out two sexual assaults in the south west of Edinburgh more than five years ago.
Independent charity Crimestoppers has launched a fresh appeal for information to help identify the man.
The first assault took place on Wednesday 5 August 2015 at around 10.30pm when a then 21-year-old woman was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted in Craiglockhart Quadrant.
The second occurred just over three weeks later on Thursday 27 August 2015.
A then 19-year-old woman had just got off a bus on Lanark Road West just after midnight when the man approached her in the Newmills Road claiming he had a knife.
He then led her to a nearby field where he raped her.
The man who assaulted these women had not been on either bus.
Advancements in DNA forensic science have established that both attacks were by the same person. Police have a full DNA profile of the man responsible.
Angela Parker, Scotland National Manager for Crimestoppers said: “These victims have been through horrific ordeals which no one should even have to endure.
“We know the police are looking for somebody ‘you’d least expect’ to commit such awful offences.
“Please cast your mind back to August 2015. Was there somebody in your life, a colleague, a friend or family member who was acting in an unusual way for them at the time?
“We are appealing to anybody who may have information on this attacker to contact our charity, with the promise that you will remain completely and totally anonymous.”
Anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers directly on 0800 555 111 or via its website.
