Kirkcaldy residents are being urged to get tested for COVID-19 even if they don't have any symptoms.

It's as a small cluster of cases of the so-called Indian variant continues to rise.

Another two infections brings the total to eight.

They're all linked but have nothing to do with travel.

Consultant in Public Health Medicine, Dr Lorna Watson says NHS Fife's desperately trying to stop carriers spreading the virus.

She told Forth News: "Some people don't realise that they have the virus, and they can pass it on to friends or family or people in their workplace.

"If we can find people who carry the virus, and if we can isolate them and take action quickly, that can stop further additional cases.

"It's a small number and there are links between the cases, but no direct links with travel.

"So we're putting in additional measures to prevent where possible any further spread.

"This variant is quite new, so there's a little bit of uncertainty about the full effects of it.

"What we're asking people to do is, go along to one of the testing sites, even if they have no symptoms at all.

"Many people don't show symptoms and we want to find those people in the community so that we can take action to limit the spread."

A variety of testing facilities are available in the town:

  • YMCA Car Park, Hendry Crescent - Open Monday to Sunday (10am to 4pm).
  • Victoria Road Car Park - Open Monday to Sunday (10am to 4pm).
  • Glebe Park Neighbourhood Centre - Open Monday to Friday (9am to 4pm), and Saturday and Sunday (10am to 4pm).
