A convicted killer who went missing from a hospital in the north east of England has been traced in Edinburgh.
Police on both sides of the border issued an appeal not to approach 51-year-old Michael Errington, after he left the Priory Hospital in Darlington on Saturday April 27 and boarded a train to Edinburgh Waverley.
CCTV images showed him arriving in the Scottish capital at around 2:30pm and then making his way to Princes Street.
He has been living at a secure mental health hospital for the past nine years after serving 18 years in prison for manslaughter.
However, police issued an update on Tuesday afternoon, saying he had been found in Edinburgh's St Leonards area.
In a statement Police Scotland said they were liaising with colleagues at Durham Constabulary.
They also thanked the public for their assistance with the case.
