A war memorial in Clackmannanshire has been spray-painted by vandals days before Remembrance Day commemorations.

The vandalism was discovered at the First World War memorial in Tullibody this morning.

Police Scotland informed Clackmannanshire Council, who are working to remove the spray paint as quickly as possible.

Chief Superintendent Thom McLoughlin said: This is a hugely disrespectful act which we understand will cause upset to the local community and we are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness.

We would urge anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour in this area recently, or has any information about this incident which may be able to help, to get in touch as soon as possible.

Our enquiries continue and there will be an increase in patrols in the area over the coming weekend, however I want to reassure the public that we are currently following a positive line of enquiry in connection with this.''
