A man's appeared in court charged over a fatal crash on Edinburgh's Maybury Road more than a year ago.

29-year-old Jonny Smith died following the collision between a BMW X5 and a Peugeot 206 in the early hours of Friday May 25 2018.

Police have been investigating since and yesterday made an arrest.

26-year-old Ednilson Ceita from Edinburgh appeared in court today under eight charges - including five road traffic offences, fraud and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

He's been bailed while the case is continued for further examination.

Police Scotland says it is continuing to speak to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in relation to any further charges, which may be brought against other individuals.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham Grant from Edinburgh CID said: "This has been a very complex investigation where we have worked to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision and the roles of any and all vehicles involved.

"I would like to thank all of those who have come forward over the past 14 months to provide us with information to assist our inquiries."
