Police investigating a serious assault in the centre of Edinburgh last October have released pictures of men they want to speak to.

A man was assaulted in St Andrew Square by two men at 2.20am Tuesday 15th October 2019.

The 23-year-old who was attacked outside a restaurant in the square had to be treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Officers have now released CCTV images of two men who they think may be able to help with the investigation.

One is described as having short brown hair and seen wearing a black coloured polo shirt with a design on the collar, knee-length dark coloured shorts and white trainers.

The images show the other man as having short dark hair and wearing a black t-shirt with white writing, black jeans and white trainers.

Detective Constable Tom Kerr said "The victim was subjected to an unprovoked attack which left him with a serious facial injury that required surgical treatment in hospital.”

Police are urging anyone with any information regarding the identity of the men to come forward and contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0260 of 15th October 2019.

Alternatively they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
