A CBE medal has been discovered by workers at an Edinburgh recycling centre.

Workers at the NWH group recycling plant in Leith are now hoping to reunite the medal with its rightful owner.

Stuart Rae, an employee at The NWH Group, discovered the medal and accompanying paperwork during his shift at the company's construction and demolition waste processing site in Leith.

Steven Walker, the site manager at the Leith depot told Forth News: "It's definitely an unusual find. We've got guys working here that have been working in the waste industry for many years and no one's ever come across anything like this before."

Mr Walker told us how the discovery was made: "I was out walking around the yard when one of the plant operators got my attention, pointed at something on the ground. We went over to have a look and saw the box with CBE on it, so we knew right away it was something special."

He added: "As soon as we found it and realised what it was we thought we've got to get this back to the person or the person's family, because something like this doesn't come around very often."

The CBE medal is a prestigious honour awarded to those who have made significant contributions to their respective fields. It is an honour to be bestowed with such an award, and we understand the sentimental value that it holds for its recipient.

Steven said: "It's a very special award and medal, and we're just hoping we can get it back to the right family."
