Cat found abandoned in carrier in Edinburgh city centre
The animal was found near Holyrood Park on Saturday.
A cat has been found abandoned in its carrier in the centre of Edinburgh.
Rescue staff at the Scottish SPCA animal charity have named the cat Holly after she was found near Holyrood Park on Saturday October 8.
She is now in the care of the charity at its rescue and rehoming centre in Balerno.
Scottish SPCA inspector Stephanie McCrossan said: This sweet little cat was dumped in her carrier with a blanket and food bowl beside the loch in Holyrood Park.
Although her owner left her with these items and left her in a public place where someone would have definitely found her, abandoning an animal is an offence.
We think she could have been dumped late on Friday night or Saturday morning.
She is in a reasonable condition, although she does have fleas and some hair loss.

The rescue came days after a cat was pulled from the River Ayr on September 29 when two teenagers spotted it submerged in water on a metal grate.
It is not known how the female cat, who has been named Zoe, got into the river in Ayr, but it is thought she may have been dumped nearby or got a fright during stormy weather and ran off.
Zoe is now being cared for at the Scottish SPCA's centre in Glasgow.
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period, or for life.
