Lewis Capaldi has won a National Television Award for his documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now.

The singer scooped the Authored Documentary award as he opened up about his struggles to cope with being famous, and dealing with anxiety before performing on stage, in the Netflix programme.

He sent a video message from America, saying: "I have to say thank you so, so, so much if you voted or even if you just watched the documentary, it genuinely means the world and it never ceases to blow me away how much this documentary has connected with people and struck a chord."

Earlier this year the singer announced he was 'taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.'

Other major winners from the night where Happy Valley and its star Sarah Lancashire.

The show won the award for Returning Drama while it's lead took home the award for Drama Performance and the Special Recognition Award.

Gogglebox scooped the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award over I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

It wasn't all doom and gloom for the show as hosts Ant and Dec won Best TV Presenter for a 22nd time.

The Repair Shop won the Daytime Award beating out This Morning who lost the award for the first time in 12 years.

EastEnders came out top of the soaps winning the Serial Drama award with its star Danielle Harold taking home the Serial Drama Performance Award.

The late Paul O'Grady was posthumously awarded the Factual award for his show Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs.
