A 51-year-old man's been charged after a double-decker bus crashed into a railway bridge in West Lothian.

It happened on Shotts Road in Fauldhouse at around 11.15am on Tuesday July 30.

Pictures appeared to show the top deck roof torn completely from the vehicle.

The operator Lothian says only the bus driver was the only person on board and escaped unhurt.

However, the road was closed for several hours while emergency services and recovery teams removed the debris.

It re-opened at around 2.20pm.

A lower speed limit was also brought in on the train line over the bridge while Network Rail assessed the damage.

A Network Rail spokesman said: A spokesman said: "Our engineers have inspected the bridge and it has not been damaged by the collision."

A spokesman for Lothian said: "We can confirm one of our vehicles was involved in an incident earlier today in the Fauldhouse area and we are fully assisting Police Scotland with their enquiries."
